A squirrel came by .... from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Oh dear, I should have been working on other projects, but a squirrel popped by my window, distracted me and I was off in a different direction.  LOL

I have bins and bags of scraps and I just started pulling pieces and before long a pile was formed and blocks were being made.  There were a lot of 1-1/2" strips and 2-1/2" neutrals.  Rail fence is one of my favourite blocks to do and that is what were made.

Before too long, all the blocks were made.  Just need to start sewing them into rows and into sections ...

Lupin Stitching in the Car in the Rain from The Cozy Quilter

Today, my husband was volunteering at a special event at a local museum.  I went with him so I could look at the WW2 displays around the property.  Shortly after we arrived, it started to rain and so I stayed in the car and listened to an audiobook while I added more stitches to my counted cross stitch Lupins. After about an hour, the rain stopped and the sun came out.  People started arriving and the day was a success.

I asked my daughter and Finn to send me a picture of her recent cross stitch finish and they sent ...

More Quilts for Survivors Blocks from The Cozy Quilter

I decided to make lots of HST's for this week's batch of blocks for Quilts for Survivors.  I did not have very much of either of these two fabrics for this block--I ended up piecing the middle square from three pieces of fabric to make it big enough.  You probably would not have noticed if I had not told you!

How about some flying geese?

Slanted Diamonds

Broken Dishes

Economy block variation

I actually have 14 blocks ready to donate now.  Two of them are not in this picture. Only 6 more to go to meet my goal ...

A Little White Lie from The Cozy Quilter

When my friend, Christine, asked me what I was sewing at the guild sewing day, I told her a little white lie.  I told her that I had worked on my sew together bag and that I had finally finished it. She asked me to send her a picture, which I "forgot" to do, until today, when I actually finished it!

The reason why I was not working on my Sew Together bag is because I was making one for Christine for her birthday.  I took her out for a birthday lunch on Friday and gave her the bag, and ...

A Finished Quilt from The Cozy Quilter

Most of my sewing this past week was by hand.  I finished quilting the Quilt for a Survivor of a Residential School on Monday and added the binding by machine on Tuesday, leaving the hand sewing of the binding for several car trips we made on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  It's been hot here so having a quilt on my lap was a bit warm but I directed the A/C vents towards me and managed to finish the hand sewing without melting!  First, a few close ups of the quilting.  I used navy thread top and bottom and ...

Purple Scraps and Quilting is Underway. from The Cozy Quilter

I sewed with a friend earlier this week and pulled out my purple scraps for my Drunkard's path blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  The white background pieces are cut out and ready to sew to the pieced sections this coming week. It's always interesting to see what lurks in the bottom of the scrap bins!

I have several (too many) quilt tops waiting to be quilted so the push is on to get some of them done.  I took three tops and backings to our church this week where I could lay them out on two tables ...

Two Pieced Quilt Backs and a Finished Quilt from The Cozy Quilter

I started the week off with all of my batik fabrics on the floor outside my sewing room, sifting though the pile to find the right fabrics to include in the pieced backing for my Quilt for a Survivor of a Residential School.  I also had 4 6 1/2 inch blocks leftover from the workshop on Traditional Variations which also made it onto the back.  I used up several larger chunks of fabric, inserting bits and pieces as necessary to make it the size I needed.  Here is the backing on my design wall, ready for pin basting and ...

I Need to Do Some Quilting... from The Cozy Quilter

Back in February, I took a Zoom class with Cheryl Arkison called Traditional Variations.  The idea was to take a traditional block and change it up in some way.  I made blocks based on four traditional blocks:  churn dash, pinwheel, log cabin and sawtooth star.  This week, I finished my last three blocks and put the top together, except for the final border which is cut but not sewn on yet.  This quilt will be donated to the Toronto Modern Quilt Guild outreach project--Quilts for Survivors of Residential Schools. My husband and I participated in a Healing Walk this morning ...

My Helper from The Cozy Quilter

I made a few more batik blocks this week for my Quilt for a Residential School Survivor.  I only have two more blocks to make.  I am contemplating ideas...  Finn likes to "help" while I am sewing, or should I say, trying to sew...

I am going to make 12 blocks for this quilt--3 of each type.  Here are my three log cabin variation blocks.  I made the bottom one today and the one on the right with the green border earlier in the week.

I added the orange churn dash block to the collection today.  I just have one ...

We Have a Visitor! from The Cozy Quilter

Finn is here!  Our daughter is quite busy at work for the next few weeks so we have Finn here to keep us company.  He loves to sit on the back of the couch and keep an eye on the comings and goings outside, as well as watch my husband and I.  Finn likes to keep track of his people.  He's staring at me as I type this blogpost on the computer...obviously, I need supervision!

Finn is not allowed in my sewing room so I have a baby gate up at the doorway so he can still see ...
